Blog #3: Sales vs. Marketing?

In my last blog for this short series on sales vs. marketing, I want to delve into how technological solutions and AI automation can help bridge the gap between the sales and the marketing worlds. First and foremost, AI automation and even technological solutions doesn't replace or remove the human touch! We still need to have face-to-face interactions even if it is virtually. In the case of sales and marketing with the siloes that have been presented, one way to create cohesion is using technology solutions such as Hunter to create automated email marketing campaigns. For my consulting business, I use Hunter to send out targeted email marketing campaigns to attract new clients. From a sales perspective, I can look at the analytics behind those campaigns and see how current and prospective clients are interacting with them. This is an example of how the sales side and the marketing side of the house can work in cohesion to drive business impact. The marketing team creates the email campaigns in Hunter for example. Then the sales team can look at the data and extrapolate to help with prospecting efforts and sales cycle methodologies. By using technology solutions to establish cohesion, we see how marketing and sales go from siloes to full collaboration! Tune in to my next blog series where I explore some of the new sales and marketing processes/techniques.

Blog #2: Sales vs Marketing?

Sales vs Marketing? Why is there a divide? When we think of the siloes in the marketing and sales world, we see marketing on one side and sales on the other. In my sixteen years in the sales and marketing world, I haven't seen marketing and sales work in cohesion ever. There was always this invisible wall even though both sides had the same business goal: increase revenue and value for the business! One of the reasons I believe there is a divide is the lack of continuality in communication. The sales side has KPI objectives to hit and marketing has campaigns to create and send out. But both sides rarely communicated with each other about their shared objectives. Hence, when the disconnect in communication arose, neither side were on the same page. A solution to this problem is having continual touchpoints. For example, once a week, the heads of the marketing and sales departments getting together to discuss shared objectives and solutions to achieve them. By having intentional conversations with both sides, there is room for shared communication and ultimately mutual understanding. This hopefully results in helping to bridge the gap or 'invisible wall' between the marketing and sales world. Stay tuned to the next blog as I explore how to continue to create cohesion in both worlds using technological tools and AI automation!

Sales is marketing! Marketing isn't sales! I truly believe that the sales and marketing world work together in a symbiotic way. But let's be clear we have defined and different objectives. Sales is paramount in any organization. No sales, no business! But marketing is the heartbeat of any business. You need to market your product or services in order to generate revenue and grow! Being in the sales and marketing world for the last sixteen years, I am still learning how to adapt my sales and marketing skillsets. To continue to grow and align with the ever-evolving AI world, I stand firm in my belief that sales and marketing must continue to work not in silos but in cohesion. In the upcoming blog posts for this series, I will expand on how this can be done! Onwards and upwards together always😊
